ORDERING FAIR TRADE COFFEE AT UUCC

The UUCC Environmental Committee requested early in 2003 that Fair Trade coffee be purchased to serve at coffee hour. This was done, and we are now enjoying great coffee and also helping ensure fair prices for the small coffee farmers and stimulating environmentally friendly coffee growing practices around the world. We are going through the UUSC (http://www.uusc.org/info/coffeeproject.html) as our purchases also assist this organisation.

We later decided that we would order packages of coffee for sale to our members, and in
so doing, continue to help the farmers, and also ensure that we are purchasing shade-grown, organic coffee to promote environmentally-sustainable farming practices.

This coffee and cocoa is now being sold to church members
after the service on Sundays. The slight markup means extra income for our church yet the coffee is still a bargain!
